Brand or method shouldn't make a difference - it's the strength of the beer that normally matters. The stronger the beer, the longer the shelf-life.There are other things that a brewer can do to increase the lifespan - Oxygen is beer's enemy. When capping, let the caps rest on the tops of the bottles for a few minutes before crimping. This will allow the CO2 in the bottles to push out the oxygen at the top of the bottles. Also, try not to allow too much head-space in the bottles. a 1/2 inch of space is all that is necessary for bottle conditioning - any more is potential for early spoilage.Once you beer is fully conditioned try to keep in a cool dark area - not a refrigerator; they vibrate and slowly destroy beer. All the best!

Tackling the Germans: Munich Helles

Apart from the Vienna lager, I’ve not spent a lot of time making German or Austrian beer styles. ?This is set to change. ?We live endearingly close to the Concordia Club in Tempe, NSW. The Concordia is the local German club and has some good German beers on tap. ?After taking my assistant brewer, Betty the Dog, for a long walk last weekend, we popped in to Concordia for a few refreshing beverages. One Paulaner Munich Helles turned in to two, which turned in to three, and inspiration struck. ?Time to make one of these suckers. ?Considering the fermentation fridge is sitting there doing nothing as my Belgian Tripel and Cleanup IPA ferment at room temperature, it’s time to throw down some lagers. The first will be the Munich Helles, a light, refreshing but malty lager with a balanced bitterness and no hop aroma. I’ll be using the Wyeast 2308 Munich ...

Researchers track the movements of several months of research through the Dolphin dorsal fins attached to radio transmitters. They found that most of the Dolphin will vary very much. human health proposal has users and dolphins are eating the same seafood in the region.

Last summer researchers and NOAA Fisheries Service NOS studied bottlenose dolphins into two groups, the first group is. Brunswick, Georgia, where contaminants was leaked into the coastal area of the former industrial site of the second group where additional information can be found nearby. Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve, close to a clean appearance protected area is approximately 30 miles of the Savannah towards the top of the page.

The investigation examined the Georgian dolphin had to tell really secret. Co-principal investigator Dr. Lori Schwacke and his colleagues found that the dolphins tissues contained PCBs never notified to the highest concentrations in the pointless.

"Brunswick dolphin are even higher than those seen in the short term killer (or orca)-Pacific Coast cetaceans, which feed to other marine mammals and are therefore higher than in the food chain. these orcas is notified before the companies in order to make the best possible HAND AND FOR DIOXIN-LIKE PCBS, flora," says Dr. Schwacke."And PCBs were considerably lower Sapelo Island dolphin, even if they are still higher than the normally we see the coastal U.s. dolphin populations."

"There are a number of reasons is concerned about the high level of PCBs in our you see these dolphins" Schwacke continues. "One, we have learned that, with the exception of a few men, most of these animals is in the very far with the contaminants is moving along the coast marine food over the Web. "

And the people eat the same seafood that dolphins.

NOAA research increases knowledge of cetaceans researchers — marine mammals Whales dolphins and porpoises that contains the group — which are difficult to study in the wild so far little is known. The sum of the Dr. Schwacke, "we must be careful about what you are doing in our North Coast we. These contaminants will not disappear They last for generations.. Pollutants that we do not allow the margins of our water today is expected to be around in the decades ahead."

The Long Haul ? Berliner-Weisse

Well, it’s time for my first sour beer. In true training wheels mode, I’m doing a not very sour sour beer; but a crisp, light, refreshing Berliner-weisse.Berliner-weisse is a style of lactic acid soured, low alcohol wheat beer from Berlin. It’s even an “appellation d’origine contrlle” – it can only be called a Berliner-weisse if it’s brewed in Berlin. So we’ll call it.. a… stuff it. ?It’s a Berliner-weisse.All that aside, Berliner-weisse beers tend to be low alcohol, around the 2.5-3%, very low hopped and often not even boiled! ?Though that may make for a nice short brew day, I’ll be boiling for a short while, just to make sure there’s nothing that isn’t invited to the fermenation rearing it’s potentially ugly head. The recipe for fairly typical ?Berliner-weisse is quite simple. I’m going 66/33% Weyermann Pilsner malt and wheat malt. Double decoctions and no boil is more traditional, but I’ll ...

In the United States is about 700 million gallons of oil every day. We use our oil fuel, heat our homes, make medicines and produce plastic toys and radios.

Accidents involving tankers, barges, pipelines, oil refineries and storage rooms for spills. These accidents as a result of the oil to oil spill recovery rivers, bays and oceans. This typically occurs when there is a loss of oil.

The u.s. Coast Guard or the u.s. environmental Protection Agency is in the United States, according to which the spill occurs, the lead federal agency is responsible. directly from the NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION provides scientific support to these agencies, during the period of the response. Many other federal, State and local agencies also support the efforts of the response of national importance during the spill.oil spill

Oil spills can be very harmful to the marine birds and mammals, and also may cause damage to the fish and shellfish. Oil destroys insulating ability to other mammals, such as sea otters and expelling water, for the benefit of the bird feathers revealed these creatures generated as a result of harsh elements. Many birds and animals on the Hill of oil also when they attempt to clean that poison them.

Spill national importance (SONS) is defined as "the seriousness of the spill, the size, position, or the health and well-being of the environment the necessary response to actual or potential impact on the fishing effort is so complex that it requires extraordinary coordination of federal, State, local, and by the party responsible for resources and a discharge in respect of the clean-up."

The new strategy set Agenda for Little understanding of the Coral communities [what's new] Study

Deep diving submersible Pisces V

NOAA Hawaii underwater Research Laboratory's (IV) fish and fish V air cushion vehicles are an important part to examine the broad water ecosystems found in coral fishing effort with a low prevalence of sunlight. This photo fish V Specifies the site mark field Leptoseris Coral at 85 m (279 feet), which helps researchers, locate the following sub dive, their research. A new research strategy with the release of NOAA partners identified and prioritized critical research needs, you can configure an incoming enquiries about the stage of Hawaii and these ecosystems around the world.

All light-depedendant-corals, sponges and algae make their homes in shallow water near the beach. Some live comfortably much further into the tropical waters of the coral communities flourish. is depths between 30 and 150 metres (approximately 100-490 feet) where sunlight prevalence is low.

Scientists know very little about these ecosystems mainly because they cannot be achieved by conventional SCUBA gear.

Researchers are trying to fill the shortfall of knowledge as a result of ongoing research to understand the animals who live in, among other things, these mesophotic coral ecosystems biodiversity and community structure. this information can be used to protect sensitive resources resource managers.

Mesophotic Coral ecosystems Research strategy is now the last will be completed to obtain the plan more effectively for the work accomplished.

The researchers will use the new strategy to prioritize research, you can create a baseline information on the status of such communities, also in view of their characteristics, their locations, and perceived threats, condition, and the causes and consequences of this condition.

The strategy is based on the 2008 Mesophotic Coral ecosystems Workshop hosted by the Perry Institute for Marine Science and organize the NOAA's National centers of the coastal Ocean Science, NOAA's Office of ocean Exploration and Research, and THE U.S. Geological Survey.

The report makes it easier to pollution concerns over Suisun Bay reserve vessels [property]

NOAA report states that at the fleet of Suisun Bay, California, stowed, over 70 ships in the vicinity of ageing are similar to those found in the rest of the San Francisco Bay.

Congress, at the request of the NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION: Office of response and restoration (or & R) carry out an investigation in the address concerns about the peeling paint and environmental groups and state California dangerous material.

Reserve Fleet

Vessels, similar to this one of the seven boats make up the national defence, Suisun Bay reserve fleet in California.

Vessels form part of the named National Defense reserve Fleet out of date or decommissioned ships nationwide fleet of the maritime administration manages. the United States fleet of any defence or emergency events such as Hurricane Katrina. Reserve fleet in the course of the program began in 1946, at the end of World War II., the program reached a peak in 1950 to more than 2,000 ships at several locations around the country.

"NOAA is pleased to offer the scientific expertise and help answer questions about potential effects on the reserve naval vessels permitted to take the Suisun Bay, natural resources," said Rob Ricker, OR & R Regional Manager.

During the summer of 2008 NOAA researchers surface and more than sufficient in sediment samples – 200 samples 72 locations and tissue samples of the Bay – the mussels and clams 15 collected at the Suisun Bay research.

Mussel deployment

The following types of bags of the mussels were introduced by book nine of the sampling stations and other locations throughout the Fleet Suisun Bay.

SAMPLING SITES were selected for the regions in the vicinity of the fleet when the water currents were likely to be transport and deposit sediments and pollutants related to fleet based on an analysis of the fleet use. sampling close to researchers with vessels from contaminants in a greater degree of confidence in the set.

The samples were analyzed in a series of metals and other compounds sometimes found in the ship's goal, such as lead and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBS) in the laboratory. They also measure the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, that can be found on the level of petroleum products after the analysis of the NOAA researchers found metals, PCBs and other pollutants at levels comparable to that of the entire San Francisco Bay Area in other places. on the basis of this analysis, the Organization of the NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION recommend any specific action.

The environmental assessment of the findings are available is called the Suisun Bay, California Assessment of Environmental contaminants associated with national defence reserve fleet in the final report.

What lies beneath: Mapping [what's new] Arctic Sea Floor

Arctic view from the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy

The u.s. Coast Guard cutter Healy Arctic view.

7. August Survey Coast Office in cooperation with the NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION's NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION-University of New Hampshire Joint hydrographic Center and several other federal and Canadian partners, set sail on the fifth Expedition to the Arctic map of North America extended continental shelf.

What is the extended continental shelf and why we need to connect it?No continental shelf is the continent gently kaltevassa underwater fringe; the sharp drop in the number of ends.In accordance with international law, and within the limits of the continental shelf of the country to extend the 200-nautical-mile zone off the coast of Cape Verde. If certain geological criteria are met, the shelf can be extended even further out and how much other out in the area because of the coastal Nations are the rights natural resources of the sea and the Sea shelf in this region.

The crew from Healy lower echo might run the risk of equipment during the last summer Chukchi Sea Expedition.

In 2007, the NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION-led mapping Expedition of about 600 nautical miles north of Alaska has shown evidence that the North American Continental slope foot was much farther out than initially thought. So this summer, 41 days of operation to build off the 2007 research and data collection to the full extent of a better understanding of the continental shelf.

Coast Guard cutter Healywill. Also clears the path through the Healy remains for the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Louis s. St-Laurent, which is fully equipped for the purpose of determining the thickness of the seismic data collection in sediment.

Its primary purpose, in order to determine the full extent of the continental shelf, in order to supplement the information collected during the Expedition to help researchers learn more about the sea-floor of the processes, ocean circulation, sediments, and air navigation services in the security ecosystems.

In addition, the Expedition is broader training component.Join Healy is NOAA Teacher at Sea Christine Hedge, teacher-middle school Carmel, Carmel Indiana. While on board, hedge affect researchers, for more information about hydrography of ecosystems and resources, which is located in North America continue to continental shelf. the knowledge and experience, he or she will be transported back to the classroom on.

OCRM implements national coastal zone management program of the coastal Zone Management Act 1972 by. program is voluntary federal-State partnership that works, the protection and development of our returns a responsible people of diverse coastal communities and resources.

Consistency of the Federal Republic of Germany is the CZMA reserve, which requires federal agencies and applicants for Federal permissions or permits correspond to the State that federally approved coastal zone manager of the actions which reasonably foreseeable impact on the State of the coastal uses or resource when doing so.Federal consistency is, in principle, an incentive to become national coastal administration program and is a powerful tool that countries use to manage coastal resources and uses, and to facilitate cooperation and coordination with federal agencies.

OCRM hosted workshops Pacific Northwest, Southeast, and Great Lakes regions. These seminars, which were present at the Federal, State and local organizations and private consultants, referred to in the basic information about the Federal consistency and some problem areas, that have occurred in previous years.

The workshops were designed to help States and federal agencies in an efficient and effective implementation of requirements for staff training programmes in order to ensure the consistency and provides an opportunity to learn from each other's programs on the establishment of effective employment relationships within these groups.

Young Scientists Tackle Harmful Algal Blooms [Feature]

National Centers for coastal Ocean Science supports research leading to the understanding of harmful algal blooms. After some research was recently taught science camp in Washington.

In the summer, more than 20 budding biologists, vary depending on the ages of five NOAA fisheries scientists joined the 14-week camp for harmful algal blooms to learn.

Campers from the Makah Tribe in Washington had a great time learning about harmful algal blooms from NOAA scientists.

Makah Tribe Campers from Washington was a great basic information about the harmful algal blooms at NOAA researchers.

Junior researchers are the Makah Tribe members who call the home of the Washington Coast to the equator. Makah Tribe and other Pacific Northwest District-tribes crustaceans are important for the subsistence food however, harmful algal blooms. can produce toxins which cause pollution in crustaceans. people who eat contaminated shellfish develop serious and sometimes fatal disease called for paralytic shellfish poisoning incidents data of crustaceans.

To help you learn to identify harmful algal blooms and understand they produce toxins campers researchers, provided that the discussions in the field of crustaceans, students, and for collecting samples of the toxin, and led to the arts and crafts activities.

"I do not know the plants in the field of phytoplankton," said one third category campers. "Only I thought they were a floaty things or cartoon. "

Students collecting mussels

Harmful algal blooms can produce toxins that make crustaceans such as Mussels poisonous to eat These campers are collected the mussels. to test the level of their toxins.

For more information about how to prevent illness, blooms and the motor caravan was involved in an outbreak of human illness Simulated. Children learned also safe laboratory procedures – all at the same time out of the white lab coats, goggles and gloves decked.

Camp week, when the children can identify the Makah harmful algal blooms and were able to teach parents and family members of the toxins that impact on the waters off the coast of Washington.

"This was a great opportunity for us tribe to learn how to use some of the top leaders of the scientific instruments in this area in the future leaders of the children, the Makah. with a week could not be determined in accordance with the harmful algal blooms and most importantly, share this information with their parents and educate what is impacting our waters," said Vince Cooke, SR. Environmental Division of the Makah Tribe Manager.

NOAA is working to provide the tools to prevent, control or harmful algal blooms and mitigate their effects. for example, the Center for sponsored coastal Ocean Research (CSCOR) financing for the Makah Tribe science camp taught toxic blooms leading to the understanding of the research Projects result in accurate. and powerful tools to detect the presence of cells and toxins toxic blooms early warning CSCOR-funded research is to the benefit of society as a whole.

In addition, the Oceans Human Health Initiative, the National Institute of Environmental and Health Sciences, Ecology and Satellite NOAA HABs (ECOHAB) program and the NATIONAL OCEANIC AND ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION Hollings Scholars program to support this project. such as junior scientist camp experience are another step in educating communities about the same time to build interest in order to mitigate the possible negative effects on the environment and the thrill of scientific careers in science for young people.

"I do not see this as ends, shows this for a beginning than our children and our family," said Edie Howe, Makah Tribe Elder.
